Double-Layer Insulation System

The shovel features a twin-layer polymer sheathing system over a rigid fibreglass core. The outer layer is high-visibility orange, chosen for high voltage and abrasion resistance. A white inner sleeve sits beneath it as a built-in safety warning indicator. If the orange layer wears through and white becomes visible, remove the tool from live working immediately. This two-tone warning system gives a clear, reliable sign of reduced protection on site.

Square Mouth Blade

The square mouth blade is the most versatile profile in the insulated shovel range. It excels at moving loose material — sand, gravel, ballast, and spoil — quickly and efficiently. It is also well suited to concrete mixing, backfilling trenches, and reinstating excavations. The flat leading edge maximises load capacity with each scoop, reducing the number of lifts required. A specially contoured collar above the blade prevents the hand slipping onto the steel. This is a critical safety detail when working near live conductors.

Fibreglass Core Handle

The handle is built around a rigid fibreglass core, not wood or hollow plastic. Fibreglass does not conduct electricity and resists moisture, flexing, and snapping under load. The polymer sheathing adds a further layer of grip and insulation suited to all site conditions.

Full BS8020 Certification

Every Premier Fully Insulated Square Mouth Shovel is flash tested to 10,000 volts before leaving the factory. Each tool is printed with the BS8020 1000V logo and carries a unique serial number. This ensures full traceability and compliance with live cable working specifications. No two tools share the same number, making site audits and records straightforward.
